disguised as an exercise in growth,
I reinvent myself to please others
I’m not meant to be some
beautiful, constant metamorphosis, but
the slow burn of a candle
becoming something gradually and
enjoying the way the flame flickers
I’m changing; if not overnight, then
over my lifetime
and if that’s not something to applaud
I’m not sure what is.
I hope you will keep who you are and acquire who you are meant to be. Best wishes.

Nice job, Elle. This resonated with me, “I reinvent myself to please others,” really enjoyed that.
Don’t we just want all the change we want, now, when really it happens gradually, piece by piece…

Years from now when you reflect
on the life you labored to protect
your candle light, still burning bright
illuminates you are perfect
Fear not the shortening of the taper
we’re little more than glue, string, and paper
it’s the life that you live, the care that you give
that those who love you will remember
Be just the way you are.
